Cub Scout Pack 802

Cub Scout Pack 802 is chartered by the Kiwanis Club of the San Ramon Valley, Danville, California.  We have approximately 70 members who are active young men, between the ages of 6 and 10 (grades 1 to 5).  Pack 802 is part of the Meridian District, which covers Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville, and San Ramon. The District is part of the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council.

Pack 802 meets once a month with Cub Scouts, leaders, parents and other family members at Sycamore Elementary School, Danville, California.

This is when the boys are recognized for their achievements and important information is shared about what is happening in our group.  Dens meet more often during the month and the families in the den determine that schedule.

The Pack also sponsors special events.  These include community service projects such as the Beach Clean-up and Scouting for Food, outdoor activities like family camping and overnights in interesting places, and fun competitions including the Pinewood Derby.  We have one large annual fund-raiser, which is selling Popcorn during the month of October.

Dens

A Cub Scout Pack is divided into small groups of about 6 to 10 boys called dens. Dens meet regularly under the direction of one or two adult Den Leaders.  The den allows boys to get to know each other better and engage in activities that would be difficult in a larger group.  Den meetings include games, handicrafts, hikes and other outdoor fun, practicing skits and preparation for the next Pack meeting, and taking part in simple ceremonies and singing.  Sometimes work on advancement requirements is included, but the boys accomplish most of that work with their parents.

Details of the den organization are left to the families in the den.  Some operate under a traditional leadership pattern where an adult leader assumes all responsibility for den operation.  He or she will ask other parents to help with a meeting, share a skill, or provide a snack.  Some dens operate under a cooperative leadership pattern where a den coordinator assumes overall responsibility for den operation and parents work as a team to deliver cub scouting to their boys.  Den Chiefs are older Boy Scouts who assist Den Leaders.  Let the Cubmaster know if your den wishes to have a Den Chief.

Dens are organized by rank. Ranks are organized by grade. The Ranks are:

Leadership

The Pack leadership consists of Den Leaders, Coaches, Cubmasters and Committee members.  All these people are adult volunteers.  They must all be registered with the Boy Scouts of America as leaders and the Pack allows a reduced registration fee for the sons of these leadership members.

Meetings and Events

Pack meetings are typically the first Wednesday of the month in the Multipurpose Room at Sycamore Elementary School. Some pack meetings are combined with the monthly event, which is held on a weekend.  Den Leader Meetings are one Wednesday evening a month and a representative of each den is required to attend.  Planning Meetings are also held on Wednesday evenings.  This is when the people responsible for an upcoming event meet to plan that event.  Reference the Pack 802 Calendar for specific dates and times of all scheduled events.  Please be aware that the Scouting program is an open program.  All parents of Scouts are welcome at any Scouting related meeting.  Your interest, ideas, feedback and participation are always welcome.

Although there are activities in July and August, the primary Pack and Den activities start in September and end with our picnic in June.

In order to have outstanding Pack meetings, we follow the "Pack Meeting Operations Rules" spelled out below:

Pack Meeting Operations Rules

  1. Have fun and learn!
  2. Be prompt.
  3. Scouts and parent(s) should attend all Pack meetings.
  4. Be quiet and attentive during the meeting, but be ready to cheer and be loud when requested!
  5. All Scouts should be in official uniform.
  6. All Dens should sit together.  The Den Flag, which displays the Den Name, number, and awards, is displayed by the stage.
  7. Keep the room clean.
  8. Each Den is responsible for a certain part of each meeting.  (Den Leaders know your assignments)
  9. Dens with the highest percentage of attendance and those that follow these ‘rules’ will be recognized at the meetings.

Uniforms

Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos and Scout leaders all are expected to wear the official uniforms appropriate for their position at scouting events, unless otherwise directed.  Refer to your scout handbook for uniform details and patch placement.  Uniform items can be acquired from McCaulou's stores or the Boy Scout Shop at Mt. Diablo Silverado Council, 800 Ellinwood Way, Pleasant Hill.  (Hours are Mon 8:30-7, Tues-Fri 8:30-5, Sat 10-3.)

The navy blue Pack 802 shirts and sweatshirts are our casual uniform and are especially encouraged for siblings and parents.  Scouts may wear this casual uniform at campouts, outings, and scout events where the official uniform could be damaged or soiled.  These products are available for sale at selected Pack meetings.
